Keen to get a head start on all the décor trends for 2018? Us too. Here’s what seems to be forecasted for the upcoming year.
Don’t put those blankets away just yet — cozy corners are in (and thank goodness because February is a cold one). Do you want a reading space? A meditation area? Carving out that dedicated space will help give your apartment a Zen atmosphere, and the good news? It doesn’t take very much to achieve. An ottoman or a Moroccan pouf combined with a blanket or two and throw pillow is easy enough. Up the ante with some candles, incense, a succulent, and an oil diffuser to create a relaxing experience and peaceful atmosphere.
Minimalists rejoice! Monochrome is in. And good news: this tone on tone trend incorporates simplicity and tranquility into the space, so you have a peaceful home and an on-point trend, all in one. If you like the trend but don’t want to go too big, try doing one small slice of your space, like the bathroom or landing area. To make a wow statement, layer a bit of luxe in, like marble and brass, or sneak in some pattern, like tiled floors or backsplash. Keep décor minimal — the trick to pulling off monochrome is to keep surfaces clutter-free.
Black Metal and Walnut Wood
Looks like rose gold is finally on the way out the door (sorry, Pinterest) and making room for hardware. Think blacks, browns, and dark metals for a sophisticated look. Similarly, we’re stepping away from pale, bleached woods reminiscent of the Scandinavian décor prominent in 2016 and 2017, and moving towards darker wood tones for a bit of a new take of modern luxe. Fuse these trends together in a media set or cabinet for a layer of modern luxe that will give your room an instant makeover.
Colours are big this year: the bolder, the better. Think rich jewel-toned statement couches or accent pieces that draw the eye around the room for a moody interior straight from a showroom. Our favourite colour choices are emerald green, bold blues, or even the newly announced Pantone colour of the year — Ultra Violet. Take your cues from the experts and incorporate this passionate shade of purple into your living space.
Whatever your space, whatever your style, there are trends aplenty for you to play with this year. What will you be trying out?
